This week I deliver to you, Christy Rose of KBShimmer. If you haven't heard of KBShimmer, you are in for a major treat. Christy offers the most fabulously fun, colorful and beautiful nail polish and bath and body. This is some serious eye candy products. I want one in every color and scent. Check out her story.
Q: Tell me about KBShimmer and how you got started?
KBShimmer is on a mission to bring fun and color to women’s bath and beauty routine. We have a dazzling array of over 100 sparkling nail polish colors. We offer swirly soaps, colorful scrubs and matching lotions, and a variety of hand and nail care products. But, it all started with gift of soap from my mother, and a trip to Florida years later where I saw bath bombs. That lead to an adventure in making bath bombs, soaps, and even lip balms myself. Though we no longer offer two of those products, those days spent formulating bath bomb and soap recipes helped build the foundation of KBShimmer and the desire to grow my own business.
Q: What is your favorite aspect about being a small business owner?
There are two things that I would call my favorite parts of being a small business owner. The first is the flexibility it offers my family. With both my husband and I working full time at KBShimmer, we can now attend my daughters school functions without worry. If she is sick, we can stay home without worry of being fired. Yes, we often work day and night on customer questions, website updates, and social media, but we can carve out the time needed for family. That was something hard for us when we were working for others and family is the most important thing to us.
My second favorite aspect of owning a small business is that we are employing others. We have three employees beyond my husband and I. Two of them are full time, and it makes me so proud that we are offering good paying jobs in an area that has a depressed economy. I do hope that we will be able to keep expanding the business, and our staff.
Q: What should a customer expect from KBShimmer when making a purchase?
When ordering from KBShimmer, be it direct from the website, through Etsy, or Amazon, customers can expect an easy process. If it is showing in stock, it is in stock. The next business day, the order is packed by two of our employees for shipping that same day. We generally have orders out the next business day after placed, though, during peak times it could be 2-3 business days. We don’t go for fancy packaging, but do try to add in samples of soaps, lotions scrubs or nail vinyls, or a bag of glitter for nail art. Really, our main focus is making sure that customers have an easy time placing an order, that orders go out quickly, and arrive safe.
Q: What are some of your best selling products?
Our nail polish is our top selling products. Oh Splat! ® has been our top selling polish since it was introduced. In our bath and body, Pink Sugar is our customers favorite scent in our soap, lotion and scrubs.
Q: Who or what has been the biggest inspiration for you?
When I met my husband, I was amazed to see that both his parents had owned their own business for years. For me, my parents had worked at the same company for years and expected to retire from there, I expected to do the same once I found my career. I saw my in-laws heading to craft shows, selling online, and I fell in love with the idea of working for myself. I would say seeing a family that owed their own successful business was the biggest inspiration to me.
Q: Do you have any special events or offers coming up?
Our summer collection will launch May 15th! We have released one polish from that collection, Precious Petals as a special preview.
